The broad rule of thumb when calculating how far you can travel in a day is to count each lock as 1 mile, add this number to the actual miles covered over a given stretch of canal, and then divide the total by 3 to give the total time in hours. JOINING THE THAMES Thames Licenses are required to join and cruise on the Thames. This fee is the responsibility of the hirer. There are several different licences available from the Environment Agency for visitors to the River Thames. Depending on how long you wish to stay, you can buy up to six one-day licences or a 15 day licence. The price depends on the size of your boat. A visitors licence can be purchased from Blakes Lock as you join the Thames or at any of the Thames Locks. Alternatively you can buy one in advance. Please call the Thames Craft Registration team on 0118 953 5650 for more details and current prices. You will need the length of your boat: Meander 58ft, Halcyon Days 57ft, Wilmcote 50ft. All boats are 6'11" width. |
